For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. -Psalm 139:13
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” -Genesis 1:26-27
Who made you? Funny question. Lots of different responses.
My answer, and I know many of yours, is that God made me.
In the Psalms, David tells us that God knit us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). We did not make ourselves. We were made by a loving Creator.
Now if we were self made, perhaps we could treat our bodies however we pleased. The understanding that God knows our bodies down to each minute detail changes things. Jesus said, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” - Luke 12:7.
Now I don’t know about you, but if I created something, I would want it to run as optimally as possible. Let’s take an automobile. If I built a car, would I want it to break down a few miles down the road? Would I put in the cheapest oil and gasoline? Would I drive it into the ground as quickly as possible? Probably not.
So how about our bodies? Our God-created bodies. Would God want us feeding ourselves unhealthy fuel? Would he want us running our bodies down until they gave out?
God created us in his image. He designed our bodies to run a certain way, eating the foods He created, moving about the Earth He created, and resting on the Earth He created. It is all a part of His design.
Today, be mindful of the fact that you were created by a God who loves you dearly. He wants what is best for you as you glorify Him with your life.
Prayer: God remind me today that you created me in your image. You designed my body to function in a unique way. Help me today to treat my body in a way that honors its creator.
